Turkish Airlines Plans to Complete the Acquisition of a 26% Stake in Air Europa in the Second Half of 2026

Turkish Airlines aims to complete the process of acquiring a 26% stake in Air Europa in the second half of 2026 and to take a seat on the company’s board of directors. THY is optimistic about obtaining the necessary approvals.

“We are progressing smoothly regarding the necessary approvals”

Sedat Orman, Vice President of Sales for Southern Europe at Turkish Airlines, said in a statement to El Español that they do not expect any problems in obtaining the required approvals for the acquisition of a 26% stake in Air Europa.

Orman stated, “We are actively cooperating with the authorities to ensure smooth progress. The aim of this investment is to expand Turkish Airlines’ global reach through a dual-hub network based in Madrid and Istanbul, and to improve connectivity between Europe, Latin America and Asia.”

Targeting representation on the board of directors

Following the completion of the transaction, THY is expected to secure a seat on Air Europa’s board of directors. Commenting on this issue, Orman said, “We hope to obtain a seat on the board of directors. However, the final structure will depend on operational and regulatory agreements.”

Orman also emphasised that discussions are ongoing in order to establish “strong cooperation and strategic alignment” between the two companies.
