At the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) International Innovation Competition held in Canada, Turkey ranked first among 193 countries. A total of 25 projects competed in the contest, and three students from Yeditepe University achieved great success with their AI-based solution.
Competing under the theme “Global Horizons: Inclusive Innovations for Aviation”, the Turkish team outperformed experienced groups, including those from India, and secured first place. Turkey’s permanent delegation to ICAO and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also supported the students throughout the process.
Investment Offer from Dubai
The project received a commitment for data use from the State Airports Authority (DHMİ). Pilot analysis studies have started at Istanbul Airport, and with TÜBİTAK applications and budget approval processes, the aim is to implement the solution within six months with support ranging from 5 to 10 million TL. In the second phase, productisation and international expansion are planned. The project has also received investment offers from Dubai.
Teamwork Brought Success
The project is carried out by an active five-member team, led by Umut Can Sürücü. Yiğit Şen serves as chief engineer, while Nisa İpek Umur handles communication and coordination. Advertising support is provided by Ceren Kankaya, with additional contributions from two Turkish students studying at universities in Milan and Bolzano.
