Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced the creation of air corridors and routes for UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and drones for both intra-city and inter-city flights.
New Air Highways for UAVs and Drones
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized the implementation of special air highways for drones, stating, “This route will be one of Europe’s few autonomous drone corridors. Many countries are preparing new regulations for amateur UAVs and drones.”
Ensuring Safe Airspace
Uraloğlu highlighted that the creation of these air highways will prevent unauthorized flights of UAVs and drones, with the introduction of a tracking and traffic management system: “We will prevent air vehicles from deviating from designated routes. Our main goal is to ensure safety in all modes of transportation.”
Licensed UAV Pilots and Vehicles
According to Uraloğlu, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) has 1,521,615 licensed UAV pilots and 65,859 UAVs registered. He said, “We will determine air corridors that will allow UAVs and drones to travel within specified coordinates for both intra-city and inter-city flights.”
Repair Stations and Mobile Applications
Minister Uraloğlu explained that UAVs and drones are used for various purposes such as security, agriculture, cargo, customs procedures, firefighting, and civil-commercial flights. He stated that the new system will prevent unauthorized flights: “We aim to protect security in sensitive areas and the privacy of private life. Operators will be able to obtain flight permits and view airspace information through mobile applications.”
Traffic Management System and Integration
Uraloğlu emphasized the need for a control mechanism for UAVs and drones: “Our tracking and traffic management system will integrate UAVs into the existing airspace. Drones will transmit live system information to the aviation control center and will be recorded. Traffic management and flight permits will be managed from a single center.” Additionally, he mentioned plans to establish repair stations along the routes.
