TOMTAŞ Begins HÜRJET Assembly in Kayseri: 500 New Jobs Planned
TOMTAŞ Aviation and Technology Inc., Turkey’s first aircraft factory, originally established in the early years of the Republic and revived in 2023, is preparing to take a historic step in the national aviation and defence industry. TOMTAŞ Board Member Ferhat Çakır announced that component-level assembly of Turkey’s first jet-powered aircraft, HÜRJET, will begin in Kayseri as of next month.
The assembly operations to be carried out in the new facilities are expected to create around 500 jobs. Çakır stated that the facilities have a 12,000-square-metre detail part production capacity, and that a 10,000-square-metre assembly facility will also be commissioned by the end of the year.
Çakır said:
“In September or October, we will hopefully begin HÜRJET assemblies here in Kayseri. This pride takes on even greater meaning with TOMTAŞ’s powerful name, rooted in its historic legacy. In addition to HÜRJET, we are also receiving detail part and assembly orders from TUSAŞ and other companies. Once all these projects are completed, nearly 500 new jobs will be created. The year 2026 will be when TOMTAŞ fully asserts itself in production, turnover and employment.”
TOMTAŞ continues to produce detail parts not only for HÜRJET but also for other national projects such as HÜRKUŞ, KAAN, GÖKBEY, ATAK and ANKA.
Dr Ahmet Hidayet Kiraz, Director of the HÜRJET Assembly Programme, commented on the assembly process:
“We will assemble what we call the component level—rear and mid fuselage, wing and tail sections. We will complete the product, which consists of thousands of parts, as five main product groups and deliver it to our customer. We aim to increase the number of deliveries each year.”
With TOMTAŞ’s revival, Kayseri carries its aviation heritage from the early Republic into the future, while continuing to provide strategic contributions to Turkey’s national aviation industry.
