Swiss aviation company Sirius Aviation has introduced SiriusJet, the world’s first hydrogen-powered luxury VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft. The company claims that the aircraft is cost-efficient, with the total cost of filling a full fuel tank being only $500.
SiriusJet, which operates almost silently, produces 90% less noise compared to a helicopter. The aircraft generates a noise level as low as a dishwasher at a distance of 100 meters, allowing it to be used comfortably near communities. Additionally, SiriusJet is equipped with an airframe parachute system, reducing the risk of incidents to nearly zero. In a critical emergency, the Emergency Parachute System automatically activates, providing an additional layer of safety.
The new type of propulsion system, which operates on a 28-channel system, reduces noise emissions. The aircraft has 20 fans along the wings and 8 fans mounted into the canard. Each ducted fan is powered by a separate electric motor. The range of the three-seater aircraft is stated to be 1850 kilometers.
The vertical take-off and landing capability allows for direct and point-to-point flight freedom, enabling passengers to land at their desired locations. SiriusJet is designed to produce a noise level of <60 dB and, as a zero-emission aircraft, it poses no harm to the environment.
Featuring a pressurized cabin and ducted fan design, SiriusJet can reach an altitude of 30,000 feet and a cruising speed of 520 km/h. The company claims that the airframe parachute system enhances the psychological comfort of passengers who are particularly anxious about flying. Sirius Aviation stated that they are addressing concerns about passenger psychological comfort in small aircraft with this solution.
Sirius plans to launch two zero-emission configurations of the aircraft in 2025: the Sirius Business Jet and the Sirius Millenium Jet. The Sirius Business Jet accommodates three passengers, catering to private jet needs, while the Sirius Millenium Jet can carry five passengers and has a range of 1,000 kilometers.
