TUSAŞ Engine Industries Inc. (TEI) General Manager Mahmut Akşit announced that they continue to present innovations at each TEKNOFEST event, revealing the TF6000 engine at this year’s event in Adana. Previously showcased as a plastic model, the military turbofan engine was presented in its complete form for the first time at TEKNOFEST Adana.
TEKNOFEST Adana, held at Adana Airport, is organized by the T3 Foundation and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, with the participation of 128 institutions, including tech giants, universities, and media outlets. TEI’s stand features Turkey’s national aircraft engines, allowing visitors to examine them up close.
Turkey’s First National Turbofan Aircraft Engine: TF6000
Mahmut Akşit emphasized that the TF6000 is Turkey’s first truly indigenous aircraft engine, marking the nation’s ascent to the “Super League” of aviation engine technology. The engine is a 6,000-pound-class military turbofan engine, successfully operated for the first time in February. Akşit noted that they have conducted around 60 tests so far, demonstrating Turkey’s growing prominence in aviation.
Other National Engines Developed by TEI
In addition to the TF6000, TEI’s stand showcases other critical engines, such as the T700-TEI-701D, Turkey’s first indigenous helicopter engine; the TEI-PD170, the first national turbodiesel aviation engine; the TEI-TS1400, the first national helicopter engine; and the TEI-TF10000, Turkey’s most powerful national aviation engine.
Furthermore, parts produced by TEI for the LEAP engine, which powers Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft, were also on display. These components, made using additive manufacturing technology, highlight Turkey’s capabilities in the aviation industry.
Jet Engine Design Competition: Nurturing Future Engineers
TEI also leads the Jet Engine Design Competition at TEKNOFEST. Akşit stated that the competition has been elevated to a more challenging level this year, with high school and university students designing a transonic and supersonic fan. Students from the National Defense University, Ege University, and Gebze Technical University excelled in the competition, with winning participants securing career opportunities at TEI.
Inspiring Youth: Interest in High Technology
Akşit expressed his delight in the enthusiasm young people show for technology, noting that participants at TEKNOFEST follow even the most complex engine technologies with great interest. He emphasized that this new generation holds immense potential for Turkey’s technological future, adding, “These young people will graduate from universities in the future, and we will pass the torch to them.”
