The World Health Organization (WHO) has accelerated its aid efforts for Lebanon, with the first medical supplies aircraft landing in the capital, Beirut. These aid flights are of critical importance due to the ongoing Israeli bombardments in Lebanon.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the urgent need for medical assistance for thousands of Lebanese civilians wounded by Israeli attacks, stating that the aid delivered to Beirut includes trauma supplies and essential medical support. The WHO announced that two additional flights carrying more trauma kits, mental health supplies, and cholera treatment materials are planned. The organization also expressed gratitude to the government of the United Arab Emirates for its support.
Israeli Attacks Continue: Hospital Targeted
This crucial aid comes amid continued heavy bombardments by the Israeli military in various parts of Lebanon. Today, a bomb struck near the entrance of the main hospital in the town of Marjayoun in southern Lebanon.
Hospital director Mounes Klakesh stated that the hospital was targeted, and due to security risks, medical staff were temporarily evacuated. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the hospital personnel.
These incidents highlight the urgent need for medical assistance in the region, underscoring the importance of the WHO’s aid to Lebanon. It has been announced that additional aid will follow with two more flights arriving in Beirut soon.
