Hannover Airport is expanding its route network and flight capacity for the summer 2026 season. With new and increased services by Eurowings, SunExpress, SAS, Tuifly and Corendon, significant growth is targeted in both leisure and city travel.
One of Germany’s key regional hubs, Hannover Airport is moving to increase capacity by expanding its flight network ahead of the upcoming summer 2026 season. As part of the expansion covering both holiday and city travel segments, new destinations are being added to the flight schedule while frequencies on existing routes are also being increased.
New Direct Flights Stand Out
With the introduction of the summer schedule, Eurowings will launch new direct flights from Hannover to Nice in France and Alicante in Spain. SunExpress, meanwhile, will strengthen its operations at the airport by operating flights to the Edremit destination in Türkiye with two weekly frequencies.
In addition, Lisbon will be reintroduced into Hannover’s flight programme with three weekly services, while regional carrier Sky Alps will continue to operate flights to Bolzano in South Tyrol.
Frequency Increases on Existing Routes
Alongside new destinations, significant capacity increases are also planned on existing routes. SAS and Eurowings are increasing the number of flights to Scandinavian metropolises—particularly Copenhagen and Stockholm—as well as to Pula in Croatia. This concentration aims to meet growing demand for city breaks and business travel, especially to the Öresund region, the Baltic states and Northern Europe.
Airport management plans to handle the increased flight traffic during the peak summer periods smoothly through optimised ground handling and operational processes.
Strong Support from Leisure Airlines for Hannover
Hannover Airport is also gaining momentum through additional aircraft deployments by leisure-focused airlines such as Tuifly and Corendon. Tuifly will expand its fleet based at Hannover-Langenhagen to six aircraft, while Corendon will permanently base two aircraft at the airport.
This capacity increase will offer a much wider range of flight options to classic holiday destinations, particularly across the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. According to industry experts, this development further strengthens Hannover’s position as one of Northern Germany’s most important leisure airports, following Hamburg.
Expectation of Steady Growth in Passenger Numbers
The economic impact of the expansion plans is also reflected in passenger projections. Airport management is forecasting a steady increase in passenger numbers in the 2026 financial year. Additional bases, new partnerships and the expansion of transfer traffic are among the key drivers of this growth.
The increased flight options not only meet the needs of individual travellers and package tour tourists, but also strengthen connections between the Lower Saxony region and Europe’s leading economic and tourism centres.
