In Spain, where they do not want more tourists, there is an increasing demand for flights to destinations where their own tourists would go. In this context, a delegation from the Valencian Community Hotel and Tourism Cooperation (Hosbec) came to Istanbul and held meetings with Turkish Airlines (THY) and Pegasus Airlines officials.
Direct Flight Request for Alicante-Elche Airport
The Spanish delegation requested direct flights from Alicante-Elche Airport in their region to Istanbul. The delegation, led by Casa Mediterráneo, included executives from various sectors such as construction and logistics. During their meetings with THY and Pegasus officials, the delegation emphasized the need for direct flights between Istanbul and Alicante-Elche Airport to commence.
Importance of Regional Connections
The delegation pointed out that there are direct connections to Valencia, Malaga, Madrid, and Barcelona, and Alicante province should also be added to this list. It was stated that the addition of flights to Alicante would benefit not only Alicante but also neighboring provinces such as Albacete and Murcia. Additionally, it was mentioned that if Turkish airlines were to operate direct flights here, the region’s film studios would become a reference point for soap opera or film shoots.
Tourism and Economic Opportunities
It is anticipated that direct flights to Alicante-Elche Airport would offer significant opportunities both in terms of tourism and economy. The Spanish delegation wants these flights to be implemented to enhance the region’s appeal and attract more tourists. If Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines consider and positively respond to this request, it is believed that tourism and trade ties between the two countries will further strengthen.
