Regional Jet Makes Emergency Landing in Houston: Smoke and Electrical Issue Reported

The FAA has launched an investigation into United Airlines Express Flight 4969; passengers were safely evacuated.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated an investigation into the regional jet that made an emergency landing at Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The incident occurred on United Airlines Express Flight 4969, operated by its subsidiary CommuteAir, after pilots reported smoke and electrical issues in the cockpit.

According to air traffic control recordings captured by LiveATC.net, the tower alerted emergency crews awaiting the plane’s landing, saying: “They are experiencing electrical issues. There is a power outage.” The aircraft safely parked on the taxiway, and the pilots requested to be towed to the terminal.

CommuteAir stated that the landing occurred due to a “potential maintenance issue.” All passengers were safely returned to the gate and are awaiting another flight to Panama City, Florida.

Jason Kadah, the airline’s Director of Communications, said: “We apologise for this inconvenience and are preparing a new aircraft for the flight to ECP.”

While the FAA continues its investigation, airline officials are reviewing the aircraft and maintenance procedures.
