A 1996 model Airbus A320-232 passenger aircraft, seized over tax debt, is now being offered for sale by negotiation after failing to sell in two separate auctions. The aircraft, currently stored in a hangar at Atatürk Airport, awaits a new owner.
Million-Lira Aircraft Couldn’t Find a Buyer, Negotiation Begins
The aircraft, seized by the Large Taxpayers Office, was listed with a sale price of 92 million Turkish lira. However, due to a lack of bids in the two auctions held, the sale is now proceeding through a negotiated process.
No Engines, Airworthiness Unknown
The aircraft’s airworthiness is currently undetermined, as it lacks engines, an APU (auxiliary power unit), and several connection components. A decision on whether the plane can fly again will depend on thorough inspections by technical teams. For now, it is considered viable only for scrap or conversion into a stationary structure.
Special Permission Required for Viewing
Those wishing to inspect the aircraft in person must follow a special procedure. This includes obtaining permission from the Atatürk Airport Civil Authority and applying to the tax office with identification and a formal request. Inspections will be conducted in groups on pre-scheduled dates only.
Registration Code TC-ODB, Formerly in Onur Air’s Fleet
The aircraft, registered as TC-ODB, previously belonged to the now-defunct Onur Air fleet. Missing parts can be seen on the fuselage and under the wings. No visuals or technical details of the interior have been released yet.
20% VAT and 4.6 Million TL Deposit Required
To submit an offer for the aircraft, a deposit of 4.6 million TL is required. Additionally, a 20% Value Added Tax (VAT) will be applied on top of the sale price.
Plane or Café?
Aircraft that are no longer flightworthy are often sold for scrap or repurposed into stationary venues. In Turkey, similar aircraft have been turned into cafés, restaurants, museums, or event spaces along highways. The TC-ODB is also expected to be converted into a publicly accessible business.
