The Swedish defence and aerospace company Saab announced that it has received a new order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, Försvarets Materielverk (FMV), to support future development activities of the Gripen fighter aircraft system.
The agreement, valued at approximately SEK 2.5 billion, covers the period from 2026 to 2028.
Scope and Purpose of the Order
The order placed by FMV aims to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of the long-term development process of the Gripen system. In this context, Saab will carry out development, modernisation and technical support activities for the Gripen platform over the next three years.
The allocated resources will be used for the purpose of:
- Maintaining existing operational capabilities,
- Developing new capabilities,
- Integrating developed systems.
Test Infrastructure and Advanced Engineering Tools
Within the scope of the order, the following are included:
- Operation and support of test aircraft,
- Advanced test tools (rigs),
- Simulators,
Various engineering and verification infrastructures.
This infrastructure plays a critical role in the verification and validation processes of the Gripen system, while also enabling the safe development of new technologies.
Thanks to modern test and simulation capabilities, the effectiveness of the Gripen against different and evolving threat scenarios can be continuously evaluated.
