Royal Jordanian Airlines announced today (Thursday, January 16) that it will resume flights to Damascus International Airport by the end of this month. According to Jordanian channel Al-Mamlaka, the airline will operate four weekly direct flights, becoming one of the first airlines to provide such a service to Damascus.
Easier Travel Between Amman and Damascus
Royal Jordanian Airlines, which has been offering daily ground transportation between Queen Alia International Airport and Syria for the past two years, will now provide direct flights between Amman and Damascus.
With a flight time of just 25 minutes and convenient connections from Damascus, the service will offer significant convenience for passengers. Travelers wishing to visit Damascus can make reservations starting today through the Royal Jordanian website or travel agencies.
Flights to Over 45 Destinations
Royal Jordanian CEO Samer al-Majali highlighted the airline’s commitment to reconnecting Syria to the global air network. Al-Majali stated, “Amman has long served as a gateway connecting Syria to the world. We facilitate access to the region for travelers from the United States and Europe. We are resuming operations with four weekly flights to Damascus.”
Turkish Airlines Also Starting Flights to Damascus
The announcement from Jordan coincided with a similar declaration from Turkish Airlines, which will launch three weekly flights to Damascus starting January 23.
Turkish Airlines General Manager Bilal Ekşi shared on social media platform “X,” “Our first flight to Damascus is fully booked. Ticket prices for future dates will start from 5,000 TRY (approximately $140).”
Rising Activity Among Regional Airlines
- Cham Wings Airlines: Restarted flights to Damascus International Airport on January 7.
- Qatar Airways: Became the first airline to return to Syria, operating three weekly flights starting January 2.
- Other Developments: In recent days, Damascus International Airport has hosted aircraft carrying aid from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, along with delegations visiting the region.
Following the reopening of Damascus International Airport on January 7 after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime, regional air traffic has significantly increased.
