Roketsan sets export target for the indigenous vertical launch system MIDLAS

Turkey’s missile manufacturer Roketsan is accelerating efforts to introduce the indigenous vertical launch system MIDLAS to international markets. Following a successful recent test, the system was integrated into the Turkish Navy, and Roketsan now aims to turn this achievement into export success.

“MIDLAS will now be on all Turkish platforms”

Roketsan CEO Murat İkinci, speaking at the TEKNOFEST Blue Homeland event held in Istanbul, said:
“We are working hard not only for our own platforms but also for the export of MIDLAS. Other countries are also making significant investments in missile and vertical launch systems. MIDLAS recently passed an important test by successfully destroying an aerial target. It was first delivered to the Istanbul-class frigate, and integration continues on the sixth, seventh, and eighth ships. From now on, MIDLAS will be on all Turkish platforms.”

Strengthening the Turkish Navy

İkinci emphasised that Roketsan’s Atmaca, Akya, Akata missiles and air defence systems provide a large part of the striking power of the Turkish Naval Forces. He also highlighted that the Bayraktar TB3 combat UAV, armed with Roketsan missiles stationed on the TCG Anadolu, will carry out the world’s first armed UAV operation from an aircraft carrier.

R&D with a global market focus

İkinci stated that Roketsan conducts continuous R&D activities not only for national security but also to strengthen its position in the global market, describing these efforts as part of a long-term race:
“This is a race. Our missile and torpedo systems successfully represent us in the field and strengthen our armed forces. However, we continue to invest in R&D to further develop these capabilities.”

Maritime-focused innovations at TEKNOFEST

TEKNOFEST, described as the world’s largest technology festival, was held this year for the first time under the “Blue Homeland” concept. The festival showcased advanced maritime and aviation technologies, with Roketsan standing out for its work on underwater systems.

Roketsan official Öztürk recalled that the company has supported rocket competitions for many years, noting that this year it also hosted the first underwater rocket competition in the fields of torpedo and submarine-launched missile technologies.
