The Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun, Mexico, has reopened following a full renovation. The property, which debuted in 2012, is known for its distinctive architecture and is one of the most recognized RIU addresses in the Hotel Zone. The refreshed hotel now offers an entirely new product across its guestrooms, restaurants and public spaces.
All 618 guestrooms have been redone with natural tones and warm wood finishes, a design carried into the lobby and restaurant areas. The lobby now includes more open space and additional natural light, and the District bar offers wide windows facing the Caribbean Sea.
A central addition is the Elite Club, an adults-only service tier with its own restaurant, bar and pool with a swim-up bar. Guests booked into Elite Club are placed in 100 of the hotel’s top guestrooms, some with private pools, located in the section of the resort formerly designated Adults Only.
Dining has expanded to nine restaurants and seven bars. Two new concepts join the lineup: an American Country restaurant inside the 24-hour Sports Bar, serving classic American dishes, and Candy, an ice cream parlor aimed at families. They join the main buffet restaurant, the Italian restaurant Duomo, the Mexican specialty restaurant Agave, the Asian restaurant Sakura, a Steakhouse and the fusion restaurant Krystal. In the pool area, Pepe’s Food serves grilled fare and Tiki Tako serves tacos.
Outdoor space now includes six pools: three for general use, one adults-only pool with a swim-up bar, the Elite Club pool and a children’s pool. Younger guests have access to the renovated RIU Land daily, alongside the hotel’s regular entertainment programming. Adult guests can also attend four weekly RIU Party events held at the neighboring Riu Caribe.
