Turkish Airlines (THY) is taking a major step to strengthen its presence in Australia and expand its market share in the region. As part of its growth strategy for 2024, the airline is introducing attractive offers specifically tailored for frequent flyers.
New Flights and Routes
Starting in March 2024, THY will offer direct flights from Melbourne to Istanbul three times a week. Additionally, from December 2024, it will launch flights from Sydney to Istanbul via Kuala Lumpur. More significantly, by 2026, THY plans to introduce non-stop flights from Istanbul to Sydney using its new Airbus A350-1000 jets. This will mark the first direct flights between Turkey and Australia, representing a significant milestone in travel between the two countries.
Exclusive Offers for Frequent Flyers
To attract more Australian travelers, THY is offering special loyalty program benefits to Qantas passengers. Qantas Platinum and Platinum One members will have the opportunity for an instant status match with THY’s Miles&Smiles program. Once accepted, these members will enjoy Miles&Smiles Elite status for four months. This elite status includes perks such as access to airport lounges (with family members), free Wi-Fi, seat selection, and increased baggage allowance.
Star Alliance Membership and Additional Benefits
As a member of Star Alliance, THY offers frequent flyers access to Star Alliance Gold benefits not just with THY, but also with other Star Alliance members like Singapore Airlines, Air Canada, United Airlines, and Air New Zealand. This status includes priority check-in, boarding, and baggage handling at airports worldwide.
Application Process
To apply for the status match, passengers need to enroll in the Miles&Smiles program and submit proof of their Qantas membership (including their membership card and recent activity report) through the feedback page on THY’s website. The approval process may take a few weeks, and to extend the four-month status to 12 months, passengers are required to complete at least one international flight with THY.
Bonus Miles and Extension Opportunities
For those who secure the status match, THY is offering a promotion that doubles the miles earned on flights throughout the year. This adds an extra incentive for frequent travelers, and the program will be valid until December 31, 2024.
