The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that a Bombardier Challenger 600 private jet that took off from Bangor International Airport in the state of Maine crashed in flames, with eight people on board. An investigation into the accident has been launched.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) shared initial information regarding the private jet accident that occurred in the state of Maine. According to the statement, the twin-engine turbofan Bombardier Challenger 600 private jet, which took off from Bangor International Airport, crashed in flames during takeoff at around 7:45 p.m. local time on Sunday.
While the FAA reported that there were eight people on board, no official statement has yet been made regarding the identities or health conditions of the victims. The agency announced that a comprehensive investigation into the accident will be launched together with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
Speaking to Reuters, a U.S. government official familiar with the matter stated that a large-scale fire broke out following the crash. It was learned that numerous emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene.
Weather Conditions Under Scrutiny
According to weather reports, light snowfall had begun around Bangor Airport prior to the crash. However, authorities have not yet made a definitive assessment as to whether weather conditions played a role in the accident at this stage.
Meanwhile, much of the state of Maine, including Bangor, the state’s third-largest city, was placed under a winter storm warning.
Aircraft Route and Ownership Information
Officials stated that the private jet involved in the crash was flying from Texas to Maine. According to FAA records, the aircraft entered service in April 2020.
It was reported that the company listed as the registered owner of the aircraft shares the same address as the Houston-based law firm Arnold & Itkin, which is known for personal injury cases. Whether this connection has any relation to the crash will be clarified as part of the investigation.
Authorities stated that new information regarding the accident will be shared with the public in the later stages of the investigation.
