Turkey has marked another major milestone in strategic munitions by expanding its domestic defence production capabilities. The next-generation indigenous aircraft bomb MK-84 GAZAP, developed by R&D units under the Ministry of National Defence, was unveiled to the public for the first time at the IDEF 2025 International Defence Industry Fair.
Claimed to be three times more effective than its global counterparts, GAZAP stands out with both its technical performance and deterrent power. Reflecting the engineering prowess of Turkey’s domestic defence sector, this new weapon elevates the country’s competence in conventional arms systems to a new level.
Maximum Destructive Power through Domestic Production
The GAZAP bomb, in the MK-84 class, is the most powerful munition Turkey has developed to date. Having successfully passed laboratory tests, it is now ready for field trials. Notably effective with its advanced fragmentation capability, GAZAP can deliver 10.16 fragments per square metre over the target area.
National Strength, Global Deterrence
Turkey is now extending its proven expertise in unmanned aerial vehicles and armoured systems into the field of conventional munitions. GAZAP marks not only a leap in technical capability but also a new chapter in regional and global deterrence.
Officials from the Ministry of National Defence stated that once GAZAP is integrated into the Turkish Armed Forces’ inventory, it will significantly enhance operational capability.
