PONANT EXPLORATIONS has opened bookings for its 2028 Arctic season, offering more than 35 departures across the world’s most remote polar destinations.
Operating between May and October 2028, the program will feature four ships sailing throughout the Far North, including the icebreaking exploration vessel Le Commandant Charcot. The collection spans destinations ranging from the Geographic North Pole and Greenland to Svalbard, Iceland and North America.
North Pole Expeditions Return
A centerpiece of the 2028 program is a series of eight departures to the Geographic North Pole aboard Le Commandant Charcot. Operating from June through September, the voyages include flights between Paris and Longyearbyen and feature navigation through Arctic pack ice, exploration of Svalbard’s fjords and glaciers and, on select departures, visits to remote northern Greenland.
Guests can participate in a range of expedition activities, including Zodiac outings, guided shore landings, kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing and polar plunges.
From May through August, PONANT will offer a collection of voyages exploring Greenland, Baffin Bay and the Northwest Passage. The itineraries provide access to Greenland’s High Arctic earlier in the season than traditional cruise vessels. Highlights include the Thule region, Disko Bay and opportunities to engage with Inuit communities while exploring some of the Arctic’s most isolated landscapes.
Wildlife viewing opportunities may include polar bears, whales and other Arctic species.
The line will also operate a dedicated Svalbard season from June through July.
The program includes PONANT’s signature 7-night Spitsbergen voyages as well as the return of a full circumnavigation of Spitsbergen, an itinerary not offered since 2021.
The sailings explore protected nature reserves throughout the archipelago and provide opportunities to observe polar bears, walruses, Arctic foxes, reindeer, whales and seabirds. Expedition teams will lead Zodiac excursions, guided hikes and educational programming focused on the region’s ecology and history.
Iceland and North America Voyages
For travelers seeking a destination-focused experience, PONANT will offer a series of Iceland itineraries from June through July 2028. The voyages include calls to Grímsey and Heimaey, along with time in Reykjavík, allowing guests to explore Iceland’s volcanic landscapes, waterfalls, geysers and wildlife. One excursion per guest is included daily.
Later in the season, from August through October, PONANT’s North America program will showcase destinations throughout Canada and the northeastern United States.
