In an extraordinary incident Saturday afternoon in San Diego, a small plane experiencing mechanical issues made an emergency landing on Interstate 805. Drivers were thrown into panic as the aircraft descended directly in front of them.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have launched an investigation into the event, which occurred around 5:30 PM. Initial assessments indicate that the plane had to land on the highway due to a mechanical failure.
Flight tracking data showed that the plane had departed from San Diego Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport, heading toward the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
No Injuries Reported
There were no injuries or vehicle-plane collisions. CHP officials highlighted that the pilot’s calm maneuver prevented what could have been a major disaster.
Traffic Temporarily Halted
Following the incident, Caltrans announced that all lanes on SB I-5 and I-805 southbound in the Sorrento Valley area were closed, with traffic temporarily redirected to the I-5 south route. The highway fully reopened to traffic after 9:00 PM.
