Domodedovo Airport in Moscow, Russia’s capital, went on high alert during the night after a Red Wings Boeing 777 made an emergency landing due to an engine fire. The aircraft, which had taken off for Phuket, was carrying a total of 425 people.
According to Izvestia, an abnormal change was detected in the operating parameters of the left engine during the flight shortly after takeoff. When the left engine caught fire, the cockpit crew initiated emergency procedures and decided to return to Domodedovo.
“Crew intervened immediately”
Artem Korenyako, a representative of the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, said in a statement regarding the incident:
“At 22:53 on 3 December, the Red Wings Boeing 777 made a safe landing at Domodedovo Airport. There were 425 people on board, including 13 crew members and 412 passengers.”
The airline stated that the crew carried out all necessary emergency measures as soon as they detected the issue in the engine.
No injuries, passengers moved to the terminal
The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency announced that no injuries occurred in the incident.
Domodedovo Airport management reported that the aircraft was safely towed to a parking area and that passengers were taken to the terminal and given their baggage:
“Some of the passengers returned home, while others were accommodated in hotels arranged by the airline. The airline also had to make adjustments to the departure times of some flights.”
A technical inspection of the aircraft has begun following the incident, and the exact cause of the engine fire will be determined after further evaluations.
