Miami International Airport (MIA) has teamed up with PS to offer departing passengers an exclusive new private terminal. Situated in the former headquarters of legendary US carrier Pan American World Airways (lovingly known in short by many of its fans then and now as ‘Pan Am’), the facility is steeped in aviation history. However, the luxurious preflight offering certainly commands a high price for entry.
Indeed, non-members can expect to pay $1,295 to access PS MIA, although, for regular visitors, annual membership offerings do bring the price per visit down. Passengers traveling in larger groups can also save a bit of money per person by booking private spaces within the facility at the former Pan Am HQ. Let’s take a closer look at what visitors can expect from this opulent preflight offering in Miami.
Miami International Airport confirmed in a statement released earlier this week that it had officially hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for PS MIA, which is the first private terminal at the Florida hub. PS also recently opened a similar facility at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) in Texas earlier this month, with PS MIA being its fourth outpost overall. There is plenty for visitors to get their teeth into.
Indeed, the airport explains that “the new terminal enables travelers to bypass the traditional airport experience through dedicated private facilities, streamlined security, and highly personalized end-to-end travel services.” As seen above, the building “preserves elements of Pan Am’s original architecture” while offering a modern experience inside. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said that:
“We are always looking for innovative partnerships that elevate the traveling experience for all MIA passengers, and the revitalization of the Pan Am terminal is especially exciting.”
The Terminal Also Features Border Control & Security Screening
As far as what is on offer inside the new PS MIA private terminal at Miami International Airport is concerned, the facility notes that “two distinct guest experiences” are offered. Visitors can avail themselves of “an elevated social lounge” known as ‘The Salon,’ while “fully private, residential-style accommodations designed for discretion and comfort” are also available in the form of ‘The Private Suite.’
As seen in the photo above, border control and security screening facilities are also available at PS MIA, making the exclusive terminal a one-stop shop that covers all of the usual aspects of the airport experience for those who can afford to elevate their preflight routine. One Mile At A Time notes that, when it’s time to board your flight, “a BMW chauffeured escort” will take passengers right to their jet bridge.
PS MIA has also solved the lack of fresh air that is available in most conventional airport terminals by factoring in an open-air courtyard to its design. Meanwhile, visitors looking to wind down at the facility can request spa treatments. Later this year, the firm is also set to launch a separate offering, known as PS Direct, which will integrate door-to-door transfers to and from passengers’ homes or even their hotels.
Private jet travel costs vary widely based on aircraft type, timing, and demand, especially on busy luxury routes like New York to Miami.
With PS MIA being set in the former Pan Am HQ and offering a luxurious preflight experience, the new private terminal appears to be nothing short of an avgeek’s dream. However, achieving this dream comes at a high price, with non-members having to pay $1,295 per visit. If traveling in a group of four, non-members can book a private suite for $4,950, bringing the cost per person down to $1,237.50.
When PS Direct is introduced in Miami, non-members looking to book this more comprehensive package will have to part with $1,650. However, paying $1,250 a year for a Salon membership brings the cost of a regular visit down to $995, with PS Direct costing $1,275. At $4,850, an all-access membership costs almost four times as much, but does bring regular visits down to $895 and PS Direct to $1,125.
