Emirates Airlines has announced that cargo flight EK9788, operated by the Turkish airline Air ACT, was involved in an accident while landing at Hong Kong International Airport. According to the company’s statement, all crew members escaped the incident unharmed.
In the official statement from Emirates, it was noted that the Boeing 747 aircraft was not carrying any cargo at the time of the accident and was being operated with a full crew by Air ACT under a temporary wet lease agreement with Emirates.
According to FlightRadar24 data, the 32-year-old aircraft had previously been used for passenger transport before being converted into a freighter.
The operator of Hong Kong International Airport stated that the aircraft, arriving from Dubai, veered off the runway during landing at 03:50 local time, partially plunging into the sea. The statement also confirmed that two security officers lost their lives after a collision with an airport vehicle during the incident.
While the investigation into the accident continues, airline officials said they are working in full cooperation with local authorities and prioritising the maintenance of operational safety standards.
