Number of Drones in Turkey Reaches 68,647 with a 12.5% Increase

Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced significant increases in the number of drones (UAVs) and drone pilots in the country. Uraloğlu stated that the number of drones has risen by 12.5% compared to last year, reaching 68,647, while the number of certified drone pilots has increased by 6.6%, totaling 1,536,993.

Minister Uraloğlu emphasized the key role of training and initiatives led by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) in this growth, saying, “The increase in drone and pilot numbers is a result of successful projects in the field of civil aviation.”

Thousands of New Drones Registered Each Year

Uraloğlu explained that, thanks to a special registration system established by SHGM, 5,000 to 8,000 new drones are added to the system annually, streamlining the processes for permits, flights, and registrations. He highlighted the rapidly expanding use of drones in sectors such as agricultural spraying, photography, mapping, traffic management, and delivery services.

Improved Safety with the Drone Traffic Management System

Minister Uraloğlu also mentioned the UAV Tracking and Traffic Management System Project, which aims to integrate drones into existing airspace and eliminate safety concerns. “With this project, we aim to manage all drone operations securely and safely,” he said.
