Travelers heading to or from the Northeast this weekend should check with their airline before leaving for the airport, as a slow-moving (and early-season) nor’easter is expected to bring delays and cancellations across the region.
Boston Logan International Airport is among those expected to see significant disruption, with Massport warning of delays and cancellations throughout the weekend. Existing runway construction at Logan could further complicate operations.
While Logan Airport is expected to see the most significant impacts, with severe flight delays and numerous cancellations, other Northeast airports also may be impacted.
New York’s LaGuardia, JFK and Newark airports could see weather-related delays and air-traffic restrictions, while Philadelphia International and the Washington, D.C., area airports—including BWI and Dulles—may experience secondary impacts as the storm moves along the I-95 corridor. The extent of disruption will depend on the storm’s track and intensity.
Airlines including JetBlue, United, American and Delta have issued travel waivers covering some Northeast airports and travel dates. Passengers should check directly with their airlines for the latest waiver terms and flight status before heading to the airport.
The worst conditions are expected late Friday night through Saturday, Sept. 26, with timing varying by location. The Mid-Atlantic could see its strongest impacts Friday night into Saturday morning, while the New York Tri-State area could experience difficult travel conditions through Saturday afternoon.
In New England, particularly Boston and Cape Cod, the storm is expected to peak Saturday afternoon into the evening, bringing heavy rain and strong coastal winds.
