A memorandum of understanding signed between HEAŞ, a subsidiary of the Presidency of Defence Industries, and Sakarya University aims to ensure the sustainable, safe, and world-class development of Sabiha Gökçen Airport’s infrastructure.
A “Memorandum of Understanding” was signed between HEAŞ, the Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Authority and a subsidiary of the Presidency of Defence Industries, and Sakarya University, with the goal of developing the airport’s infrastructure in a safe, sustainable, and internationally compliant manner.
The signing ceremony, held at the Rectorate of Sakarya University, was attended by HEAŞ General Manager Faruk Kacır, Sakarya University Rector Prof. Dr. Hamza Al, and institution executives.
The signed protocol covers the execution of scientific and technical studies to ensure the long-lasting, safe, and sustainable operation of Sabiha Gökçen International Airport’s runway, taxiway, apron, and other infrastructure components. It also aims to support the academic development of HEAŞ personnel by encouraging participation in postgraduate programmes and strengthening their areas of expertise through technical training and certification processes.
The data obtained will be analysed using modern engineering methods to create digital twin models. This will enable the development of proactive maintenance, repair, and improvement projects through detailed reporting of the current situation. The technical reports and academic publications to be prepared will directly contribute to HEAŞ’s decision-making processes, supporting the spread of a data-driven and preventive maintenance culture.
HEAŞ General Manager Faruk Kacır stated, “This collaboration is a strategic step that strengthens our vision of sustainability and innovation in aviation. We believe that sustainable growth is only possible through scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and a qualified workforce. We are confident that this protocol will make significant contributions to our country’s aviation infrastructure, knowledge base, and human resources.”
Sakarya University Rector Prof. Dr. Hamza Al said, “This memorandum of understanding we have signed with HEAŞ is a concrete step that brings our university’s scientific expertise into practice. As Sakarya University, we will continue to contribute to strategically important transportation and infrastructure projects with our capacity for knowledge generation and analysis. This cooperation will contribute to our country’s vision of intelligent transportation infrastructure by offering innovative solutions ranging from digital twin applications to AI-supported maintenance processes.”
