With its strategic partnership agreement signed with Sydney, Australia’s largest airport, İGA is expanding its global connectivity network. The agreement will contribute to Türkiye’s tourism, trade, and cultural exchange potential.
İGA Istanbul Airport has added another international strategic partnership to its portfolio. Acting with the vision of enhancing service quality and strengthening Türkiye’s central role in global transportation, İGA has signed a “Sister Airport Agreement” with Sydney Airport (SYD) in Australia.
The agreement was established to increase passenger and cargo traffic between the two airports, improve air services, and jointly carry out destination promotion activities. Within this scope, the parties will cooperate in areas such as route development, information sharing, and mutual destination promotion.
As part of the cooperation, annual management meetings will be held, and workshops or seminars will be organised when necessary. The parties will share non-commercially sensitive data and best practices to encourage the development of new air services. In addition, joint marketing activities will be implemented to enhance the visibility of the Istanbul and Sydney destinations.
The “Sister Airport” agreement between İGA Istanbul Airport and Sydney Airport will make significant contributions to the two operators’ goals of sustainable growth, passenger experience, and global connectivity.
This step, which strengthens İGA’s presence on the Australian continent, also reinforces Istanbul’s position in the global market. The partnership with Sydney marks İGA Istanbul Airport’s 10th “Sister Airport” protocol, following the agreement signed with Chicago O’Hare International Airport (CDA) in June.
İGA’s current “Sister Airport” network includes Incheon from South Korea; Capital Airports Holding, Shanghai Airport Authority, and Sichuan Provincial Airport Group from China; Copenhagen from Denmark; Airports of Thailand; and Airports Corporation of Vietnam.
According to ACI EUROPE’s “Airport Industry Connectivity Report 2025,” İGA Istanbul Airport has surpassed Frankfurt in the global connectivity ranking, becoming the world leader. Offering direct flights to more than 330 destinations, İGA hosts over 110 airlines, ranking among the top three airports worldwide serving the highest number of airlines.
