Following their series of victories in the USA, the National Volleyball Team traveled back in Turkish Airlines’ business class. The athletes commented, “We came back comfortably… We have victories, that’s the most important thing.”
After a 13-hour economy class flight to the USA for the second leg of the Nations League, where they won all four matches, the National Women’s Volleyball Team returned to Turkey with a significant morale boost. The team, which achieved an important success before the Paris Olympics, landed at Istanbul Airport in the business class of a Turkish Airlines plane.
Social Media Reaction
The national volleyball players, who faced criticism on social media for flying to the USA in economy class, had a comfortable return journey. Volleyball player Tuğba İvegin said, “I don’t think this is the topic to discuss right now. We have victories, that’s the most important thing.”
Last week, the fact that star players flew to the USA in economy class sparked reactions, with Ebrar Karakurt writing on social media, “Keep allocating private planes for other teams, but economy for us.”
Statements from THY and TVF
In response to the criticism, Turkish Airlines Press Advisor Yahya Üstün stated that the ticketing processes are the responsibility of the relevant federations. The Turkish Volleyball Federation (TVF) noted that the flight lists were shared with Turkish Airlines officials on May 17, 2024, and that it was not possible to accept inaccurate statements.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that they had organized the national team’s return journey in business class.
