Swedish hybrid-electric aircraft manufacturer Heart Aerospace has unveiled the first full-scale prototype of its groundbreaking hybrid-electric regional aircraft, the ES-30. This 30-seat aircraft, equipped with environmentally friendly technology, promises to revolutionize regional aviation with its innovative hybrid-electric design.
Game-Changing Technology
The ES-30 model from Heart Aerospace stands out for its dual capabilities: fully electric flight and hybrid engine technology. The aircraft is designed to fly up to 200 kilometers purely on electric motors. For extended range, two small turboprop engines can kick in, extending the flight range to 400 kilometers. This hybrid setup offers operational flexibility while delivering an eco-friendly flight experience.
First Flight Set for 2025
The full-scale prototype, named “Heart X1,” will begin testing with its first fully electric flight expected in the second quarter of 2025. Before this historic flight, the company aims to rigorously test critical systems to ensure top safety and performance standards.
Airlines Closely Watching
Heart Aerospace’s innovative project has already garnered significant interest from the airline industry. United Airlines and Mesa Air Group have each placed orders for 100 ES-30 units, demonstrating their confidence in the project. Additionally, Air Canada has invested $5 million in the program, further signaling strong support for environmentally friendly aircraft technologies.
Eco-Friendly and Cost-Effective
The ES-30 boasts low carbon emissions, quiet operations, and reduced operating costs. Compared to traditional aircraft, it is more environmentally friendly and can take off from short runways as short as 1,100 meters, making it an ideal option for regional flights.
