A Mi-8 helicopter en route from Okhotsk to Magadan in Russia’s Far East has mysteriously vanished during flight. The helicopter was scheduled to arrive at its destination by 7:00 p.m. local time but lost contact and never reached the designated point, prompting immediate concern among authorities.
According to Russian officials, the missing helicopter belongs to the agricultural industrial company Vzlyot. There were five people on board—three crew members and two technicians.
Severe Weather Disrupting Search Efforts
Large-scale search and rescue operations were launched in the region to locate the missing helicopter. An An-26 aircraft took off from Magadan, and another Mi-8 helicopter was dispatched from Okhotsk to assist in the search. A helicopter from Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations has also been placed on standby.
However, heavy rain, low visibility, and thick cloud cover in the area have negatively affected the search. Rescue teams were reportedly forced to return to their bases due to the adverse weather conditions. The Emergency Ministry’s helicopter has not yet taken off and is awaiting further instructions from the command center on the ground.
No Emergency Signal Detected Yet
So far, no emergency signal has been received from the helicopter, and its exact disappearance location remains unidentified. Meteorological data suggests that search efforts may be suspended until morning. Authorities have stated that operations will resume as soon as weather conditions improve.
An investigation into the incident has been launched, and all available resources are being mobilised to locate the missing helicopter and its occupants.
