Loud explosions heard in the early morning hours caused panic in Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). A U.S.-operated C-RAM air defense system intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) near Erbil International Airport. Security forces have since cordoned off the area.

Loud explosions in the early hours of the morning triggered brief panic in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq. According to local sources, the sounds were heard at approximately 2:30 a.m. near Erbil International Airport.

Moments after the explosions, sirens sounded around the U.S. Consulate in Erbil. Security sources reported that the noise was caused by the activation of a U.S.-operated C-RAM (Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar) air defense system, which destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in midair.

Following the incident, a large number of security personnel were deployed to the area. Tight security measures were implemented around the airport, and the vicinity was sealed off. Authorities confirmed that there were no casualties.

No official statement has yet been made regarding which country or group launched the drone. An investigation has been launched, and security forces remain on high alert in the region in case of a potential second attack.
