Malaysia has announced that it will resume the search for the MH370 aircraft, which disappeared in 2014, claiming the lives of 239 people, on December 30, 2025. The Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, a passenger plane, disappeared from radar 38 hours after taking off from Kuala Lumpur, and despite years of search efforts, the wreckage has yet to be found.
Search to Last 55 Days
According to a statement by the Ministry of Transport, the new search operation, which will begin eight years after the disappearance of MH370, will last for 55 days. The ministry emphasized that this step reaffirms its commitment to providing closure for the families affected by the tragedy. In collaboration with Ocean Infinity, data will be collected from the ocean and seabed to conduct the search. Furthermore, under the agreement, no payment will be made if the wreckage is not found.
$70 Million to be Paid if Wreckage is Found
Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook stated that if the wreckage of the aircraft is found during the search, Ocean Infinity will receive a payment of $70 million. This will be an extremely sensitive and strategic effort aimed at locating the missing MH370.
The MH370 Aircraft and Its Mysterious Disappearance
Malaysia Airlines’ MH370 flight took off on March 8, 2014, on a Kuala Lumpur-Beijing route. However, the aircraft deviated from its flight path and disappeared from radar just 38 minutes after takeoff. Despite extensive search efforts, the wreckage was never found. This event became the largest search operation in history.
Previous multinational search efforts in 2017 involved 60 ships and 50 aircraft from 26 countries but ended without results. Ocean Infinity conducted a search in 2018, but this only lasted three months. The mystery of the missing plane has sparked numerous conspiracy theories, suggesting the pilot intentionally crashed the aircraft or that it was hijacked. A 2018 investigation revealed that the aircraft’s control systems were deliberately manipulated, causing it to veer off course, but the cause of the disappearance has never been fully resolved.
