YDA Dalaman Airport, one of Turkey’s busiest airports, has taken a significant step in its sustainability strategies by completing the first phase of a major solar energy project. The project features a solar power plant installed on a 45,000 square meter area with 15,000 solar panels. This installation will enable the airport to generate electricity from solar energy, aiming to reach an installed capacity of 8,250 kilowatts DC, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 3,000 households.
YDA Dalaman Airport CEO Yiğit Laçin emphasized in a statement that the airport is continuing its efforts to become one of Turkey’s leading airports in sustainability. Laçin stated, “As an airport, we prioritize eco-friendly projects, and by establishing one of the world’s largest solar power plants, we are taking a pioneering role in sustainability.”
Laçin noted that YDA Dalaman Airport is pursuing various projects to achieve its goal of becoming a green airport. These projects include agreements to reduce aircraft emissions, transitioning to LED lighting, promoting the use of electric vehicles, and implementing sensor-based control systems to save energy and prevent paper waste.
He added that YDA Dalaman Airport’s sustainability goals will continue, and the necessary steps for the transition to green energy will be taken.
