Major Smuggling Operation in Izmir: 166 Gold Bars Seized

In an operation at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, 166 gold bars and 18 gaming consoles, which were being smuggled into Turkey, were seized during searches targeting six Uzbek women passengers and the individuals who came to meet them. Seven people connected to the smuggling were arrested and sent to prison.

Acting on Intelligence

Teams from the Anti-Smuggling Crimes Branch of the Izmir Police Department acted on intelligence they received. Investigations revealed that six Uzbek women passengers who flew from Dubai to Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport were attempting to smuggle gold into the country.

Details of the Operation

The operation took place on October 2, when police stopped the suspicious women and two vehicles that came to meet them at the airport exit. Initial searches uncovered 82 gold bars, each weighing 110 grams, 18 gaming consoles, and 3 smartphones.

Shocking Details: Gold Hidden in Body Cavities

The most striking detail emerged during internal body examinations conducted under a court order. An additional 84 gold bars, each weighing 110 grams, were found hidden in the women’s genital areas. After being surgically removed, the total number of gold bars seized reached 166. It was reported that the total weight of the gold was 18.5 kilograms, with an estimated market value of approximately 55 million Turkish lira.

The six women and one accomplice were taken to court after their processing at the police station. All seven individuals were arrested and sent to prison.
