Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdülkadir Uraloğlu shared details of a major investment project at Antalya Airport. The expansion and renovation, set to be completed by the end of the year, will increase the airport’s current passenger capacity from 35 million to 82 million. Highlighting Antalya’s growing significance in global aviation, Minister Uraloğlu stated, “Antalya Airport is one of Turkey’s shining stars. Through our investments, we will both expand capacity and strengthen the city’s aviation infrastructure.”
Doubling Terminal Space and Increased Capacity
With this expansion, the international terminal area at Antalya Airport will increase from 93,000 square meters to 231,000 square meters, while the domestic terminal will grow from 37,000 square meters to 75,000 square meters. This expansion will boost the annual passenger capacity from 35 million to 82 million. Minister Uraloğlu noted that the airport has already exceeded its capacity of 35 million passengers, which led to the expansion efforts starting two years ago. The new terminal infrastructure will also enable passengers to transition more quickly and comfortably to their flights.
Massive Investment: 1 Billion Euros and 8.5 Billion Euros in Lease Revenue
The expansion project at Antalya Airport involves a 1-billion-euro investment and will generate 8.5 billion euros in lease revenue for the state. Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that this project, successfully executed through the “Build-Operate-Transfer” model, will provide significant economic benefits to Antalya and Turkey. These investments will not only increase airport capacity but also support the region’s tourism industry.
New Control Tower and Other Infrastructure Enhancements
The project includes the construction of a new control tower to improve airport management efficiency. This investment will enable Antalya Airport to fully utilize its expanded capacity. Once completed, the project will also introduce new aprons, aircraft hangars, a cargo terminal, and a multi-story car park, offering quicker and more efficient service for both passengers and airlines.
Antalya’s Rising Position in Global Aviation
In addition to being a major tourism destination in Turkey, Antalya is quickly gaining global recognition in the aviation sector. Antalya Airport currently serves nearly 35 million passengers annually, and this investment will further enhance its capacity. Minister Uraloğlu noted that Antalya has attracted attention from international aviation authorities, stating, “Antalya is a favorite destination not only for our country but also for the world. Our investments will bring the city’s aviation infrastructure up to global standards.”
