Domestic Maintenance and Repair Era for Power Generation Turbines
As part of the “Electricity Generation Turbines Maintenance, Repair, and Logistics Support Project Agreement,” which follows the “Defense Industry Support Fund” protocol signed in March between SSB and EÜAŞ, TEI will provide maintenance, repair, modification, and material supply for the gas and steam turbines in EÜAŞ’s inventory. This agreement will accelerate the integration of defense industry technologies into the energy sector.
From Defense Industry to Commercial Success
Gökhan Uçar, Deputy Head of Aviation Systems at the Presidency of Defense Industries, emphasized during the signing ceremony that developing the defense industry is a costly process, but using these products commercially makes it more efficient. He stated, “With this agreement, we are making a good start with EÜAŞ. The defense industry progresses more quickly through commercialized projects.”
National Technology Initiative in Energy and Defense
Zafer Benli, Chairman and General Manager of EÜAŞ, stressed the critical importance of national security in both the defense and energy industries. He stated that reducing foreign dependency in energy technologies is a key goal, much like in the defense industry. “By transferring the knowledge from the defense industry to energy, we will make significant strides toward reducing our dependency on foreign technology,” Benli said.
TEI’s Role and Strategic Steps
TEI General Manager Prof. Dr. Mahmut F. Akşit highlighted the company’s contributions to the energy sector, recalling that the first nickel superalloy turbine blades developed in Turkey in 2007 were used in power plants. He noted that this expertise will be further advanced, adding, “Energy independence is a highly strategic issue, and this project will help us make significant progress.”
A Well-Attended Signing Ceremony
This collaboration, which transfers defense industry technologies to the energy sector, is seen as a major step toward the future of both industries. Senior officials from the Presidency of Defense Industries, EÜAŞ, and TEI were present at the signing ceremony, signaling the importance of the partnership.
