Macau Signs Aviation Agreements with Middle Eastern Countries

Macau has signed service agreements with 50 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Israel, Türkiye, and Qatar, establishing a legal framework for future aviation connections.

The latest development was announced in a written response from the Civil Aviation Authority to legislator Lam Lon Wai. The statement noted that negotiations are ongoing to reach an agreement with Saudi Arabia this year regarding scheduled passenger flights.

Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways Use Macau as a Transit Hub

Macau is currently used primarily as a transit hub for cargo transport by Turkish Airlines (THY) and Qatar Airways. Officials stated that incentive programmes for foreign airlines are also being implemented to expand the city’s flight network.

New Links to Asia and Europe

Thanks to Macau’s express flight service, passengers can transfer from hubs such as Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo, and Taipei. Their baggage is transferred directly, ensuring smooth connections.

Code-sharing by Macau-based carriers via Beijing also provides significant convenience for European connections with Frankfurt. Officials emphasised that usage of this route is rapidly increasing, making Macau–Europe travel an increasingly viable option.
