Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, signed one of the aviation industry’s most remarkable agreements on the opening day of the Dubai Airshow 2025. The airline announced a new investment worth a total of 38 billion US dollars by placing an order for an additional 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft powered by GE9X engines.
With this latest purchase, Emirates’ total orders placed with Boeing have reached 315 wide-body aircraft, including 270 Boeing 777X, 10 Boeing 777 freighters, and 35 Boeing 787s. The GE9X engine orders placed with GE Aerospace have also increased to 540 units with the additional 130 units signed today. This strategic move by Emirates provides long-term support to the US aviation and aerospace industry, contributing to hundreds of thousands of skilled jobs in production processes.
Strong Support for 777-10 Development
The new agreement between Emirates and Boeing also provides significant support for the development of the Boeing 777-10, a larger model of the 777X family. The airline signed an agreement that includes options to convert the latest 777-9 order into the 777-10 or 777-8.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, made the following statement regarding the agreement:
“Emirates is already the world’s largest operator of the Boeing 777, and with today’s additional order valued at 38 billion dollars for 65 Boeing 777-9s and 130 GE9X engines, we are expanding our commitment to the programme. This is a reflection of our partnership with Boeing and GE, and our long-term commitment to the US aviation and aerospace industry.”
Sheikh Ahmed emphasised that each aircraft ordered is meticulously integrated into Emirates’ growth strategy, highlighting that a modern and young fleet is a key element of the company’s core strategy:
“We aim to begin taking delivery of our first 777-9 aircraft from the second quarter of 2027. We will continue our close cooperation with Boeing to equip these aircraft with industry-leading cabin products.”
Praise from Boeing and GE for Emirates
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said they are honoured that Emirates has once again chosen the 777X:
“It is a source of pride for us that Emirates has chosen to strengthen its future with the 777X as it expands its global network.”
Russell Stokes, President and CEO of GE Aerospace Commercial Engines and Services, emphasised the deepening of the long-standing partnership with Emirates:
“This additional GE9X engine order reflects Emirates’ confidence in our technology.”
Emirates’ 40-Year 777 Tradition Continues
Emirates is the only airline that has operated all models of the Boeing 777 family throughout its 40-year history. The company, which today has the world’s largest Boeing 777 fleet equipped with GE90 engines, continues to support global trade and tourism networks with flights to more than 140 cities.
With the new orders, Emirates plans to receive Boeing deliveries until 2038. This long-term partnership relies on the expertise of thousands of workers at production facilities in Alabama, Kansas, Washington, Texas, and many other states.
