European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued an advisory decision recommending that airlines avoid using Iranian airspace due to increasing military tension and security risks in the region.
Following a joint assessment conducted by EASA and the European Commission, civil flights in Iranian airspace were classified as “high risk”, and a Conflict Zone Information Bulletin (CZIB) was published.
Advisory Covers All Altitudes
The published bulletin emphasised that the warning applies to flights at all altitude levels. Airlines were requested to plan alternative routes instead of existing routings that pass through Iranian airspace.
Military Activity Raises Concerns
It was stated that the decision was taken due to serious security concerns related to increased military activity in the region and the risk of air defence systems mistakenly targeting civil aircraft. EASA highlighted that the current risk environment exceeds acceptable levels for civil aviation.
Valid Until Further Notice
EASA announced that the advisory will remain in force until further notice. The Agency stated that it will continue to closely monitor developments in the region and regularly update its risk assessment.
