Following a report by the pilot of a passenger aircraft cruising over Eskişehir airspace that he had detected an unidentified object in the sky, the Turkish Air Force went on alert. After the incident, military jets were dispatched to the region and a search and sweep operation was initiated.
According to the information obtained, in the morning hours the pilot of a passenger aircraft operating in Eskişehir airspace reported the situation to the Ankara Air Traffic Control Tower after being unable to identify the object seen in the air. In line with the coordinates shared by the pilot, it was learned that jets belonging to the Turkish Air Force were rapidly deployed to the area.
Official Statement Awaited
While no official statement has yet been made by the authorities regarding the development, it was stated that the search and sweep activity carried out within the scope of air safety protocols was completed in a short time.
Experts state that there is a strong possibility that the object in question was a meteorological balloon travelling at high altitude. It is noted that similar reports are from time to time assessed within the framework of air traffic safety and that preventive measures are routinely implemented.
It was learned that the incident did not cause any disruption to civil air traffic and that flights continued as scheduled.
