EasyJet Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing in Cologne Due to Co-Pilot’s Illness

An EasyJet Airbus A320 passenger aircraft, which had departed from Istanbul Airport bound for Manchester, UK, was forced to make an emergency landing at Germany’s Cologne Airport after the co-pilot became unwell during the flight.

While flying over Czech airspace, the co-pilot experienced severe abdominal pain and was deemed unable to continue his duties. The captain contacted Air Traffic Control and requested diversion to the nearest safe airport. Following this request, the aircraft was safely landed at Cologne Airport.

The unwell co-pilot was transferred to hospital by ambulance directly from the apron. EasyJet assigned a replacement co-pilot to continue the operation. After completing the required safety checks, the aircraft took off again and landed at Manchester Airport with an approximately five-hour delay.

Passengers Continued Their Journey Safely

The incident was recorded as a planned emergency procedure carried out for passenger safety. No passengers experienced health issues, and the flight’s safe completion despite the delay once again highlighted the importance of aviation safety standards.
