The Security Department of Israel’s Ministry of Transport has declared certain airports in Turkey as “unsafe,” deciding not to permit flights from these locations. As a result, major airports such as Ankara Esenboğa Airport and Adana Airport have been removed from the list of approved security airports.
The security list, which determines the airports that are authorized for flights into Israeli airspace or landings in Israel, now includes only Istanbul Atatürk Airport, Sabiha Gökçen Airport, Antalya Airport, Dalaman Airport, Milas-Bodrum Airport, and Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport.
Zafer Yeşilgül, Chairman of the Board of Apronjet, criticized Israel’s classification of Turkish airports into safe and unsafe categories, stating that it unfairly impacts commercial competition. He emphasized that while planes from Israel can directly fly to any airport across Turkey, flights from Turkey to Israel are restricted to only a few airports.
Yeşilgül also noted that removing Adana Airport from the security-approved list could have adverse effects not only on commercial competition but also on diplomatic relations.
He pointed out that the tensions between Israel and Hamas have extended into the aviation sector, and urged both sides to adopt a more cautious and constructive approach, considering mutual security concerns.
