Israel, which has been accused of committing genocide in Gaza, has signed an agreement with the US to acquire 25 F-35 fighter jets. The first delivery is scheduled for 2028.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced that they have reached an agreement with the US government to procure 25 new F-35 fighter jets. This agreement, which includes support and maintenance services provided by Lockheed Martin, will increase Israel’s fleet of stealth aircraft to 75.
The deal is reported to be worth approximately $3 billion, with the cost being financed through American aid funds. The first deliveries to Israel will begin in 2028, with 3 to 5 aircraft being delivered each year.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant described the agreement as “a confirmation of the strategic alliance between the US and Israel,” stating, “This agreement sends a strong message to our enemies in the region.”
Israel decided to purchase F-35 aircraft from the US in 2010, with the first two F-35 jets arriving at Nevatim Airbase in December 2016. As of 2023, Israel has received 36 out of the 50 F-35 fighter jets it had initially ordered.
Since October 7, Israel, with the strong support of the US, has been responsible for the deaths of approximately 40,000 people in Gaza.
