IndiGo has announced that it will discontinue its wide-body operations from 25 October 2026 and conclude its damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways on 31 October 2026, citing the challenging operating environment created by ongoing geopolitical tensions.
During the transition, the airline’s Mumbai–Amsterdam route will use Airbus A321XLR aircraft starting 25 October 2026. Meanwhile, services to and from London Heathrow will be temporarily halted until IndiGo’s Airbus A350-900 is delivered.
In early 2025, the airline initiated a damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways, leasing six Boeing 787-9 planes to support limited long-haul flights. This move aimed to help the airline gain operational experience and prepare for its own wide-body fleet launch.
During the programme, IndiGo said it developed capabilities in long-haul network planning, customer experience, crew operations, maintenance, airport handling, revenue management and international partnerships.
However, the airline said the operating environment has changed significantly due to geopolitical developments, rising fuel prices, airspace restrictions and currency pressures. According to IndiGo, these factors have affected route efficiency, operational performance and overall commercial viability, leading to a review of the programme.

IndiGo confirmed that it will continue preparing for the launch of its own wide-body operations once its Airbus A350-900 aircraft enter service.
The airline added that it will work with affected customers by offering alternative travel arrangements or refunds, where applicable, to ensure a smooth transition.
