Between October 13 and 17, at least 33 false bomb threats targeted domestic and international flights in India, leading to heightened security concerns. Various Indian airlines were affected, forcing some planes to divert or make emergency landings. Fortunately, all of the threats were found to be hoaxes, but they have sparked serious worries about aviation safety.
The Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced plans to take firm action against such threats, including tightening aviation security regulations. Proposed measures include adding individuals who issue false threats to no-fly lists, with potential legal consequences.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu emphasized that these incidents are being treated as individual acts rather than part of a larger conspiracy. Mumbai Police have already arrested one person in connection with these threats, a minor whose identity has not been disclosed. The threats were reportedly made via the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), with flights to destinations like Muscat, Jeddah, and New York targeted.
