An incident on a UK-based Jet2 Airlines flight has once again brought passenger safety in aviation into focus. On 24 July, during a flight from Leeds Bradford Airport to Crete, two male passengers were removed from the aircraft and blacklisted by the airline due to intoxication and inappropriate behaviour.
According to fellow passenger Ian Boyle, the two men began drinking a bottle of vodka they had purchased duty-free during a delay before take-off. Boyle said, “They took advantage of the delay and started drinking vodka. One of them got so drunk he completely lost control.”
Despite the crew’s efforts, the situation could not be brought under control. Boyle noted that the Jet2 staff did everything they could, but the disruptive passenger disturbed the entire cabin.
West Yorkshire Police were called to the scene and boarded the aircraft to remove the two men following the disturbance. The moment was captured on video as the passengers were escorted off the plane alongside officers on the tarmac.
The passengers were arrested by police on suspicion of “breach of the peace” and later released on bail.
Jet2’s Firm Statement: “Zero Tolerance”
A Jet2 spokesperson condemned the passengers’ behaviour as unacceptable, stating: “Due to their appalling and disruptive conduct, these two individuals have been banned from flying with us indefinitely. As a family-friendly airline, we operate a zero-tolerance policy toward such incidents.”
