At the “Bursa’s New Vision: Bursa Airport/Airlines” meeting held in Bursa, Oman Air Board Member İlker Aycı delivered strategic messages regarding the city’s future. Highlighting Bursa’s industrial strength, Aycı noted that the city needs to strengthen its air transport and logistics infrastructure.
The meeting was attended by Yenişehir Mayor Ercan Özel, AK Party Bursa MP Mustafa Esgin, as well as numerous local officials and industry representatives.

“Bursa Can Become Marmara’s Smart Connectivity Hub”
Aycı stated that despite Bursa’s strong industrial potential, it has not yet achieved its deserved position in air transportation, adding that the city could become the smart connectivity hub of the Marmara region.
“Bursa’s strength comes from industry, but its future depends on connectivity. Without integration, there is no efficiency; without efficiency, there is no competitiveness,” he said.
Aycı also noted that even a vision of an integrated high-speed train station at Bursa Airport could make a significant difference in the city’s transportation infrastructure.

“We Can Take Bursa Far Beyond 250,000 Passengers”

Drawing attention to the aviation capacity in the region, İlker Aycı cited the growth in Turkey’s air transport sector:
“In 2000, passenger capacity was 30–35 million; today, it has reached 230 million. We can also take Bursa beyond the annual figure of 250,000 passengers.”
“Yenişehir Airport Is a Candidate to Become the Gateway to Marmara”
Yenişehir Mayor Ercan Özel stated that the airport has been revitalized and highlighted its potential to become the air transport gateway of the Marmara Region.
“Chinese companies want to use Bursa Yenişehir Airport to land 60 cargo planes per day. This alone demonstrates the region’s logistics strength,” he said.
“Bursa Should Look to the Future, Not the Past”
AK Party Bursa MP Mustafa Esgin stated during the meeting that discussions about the airport’s location should finally end:
“Bursa needs to look to the future, not the past. As of today, this airport’s location is the most suitable,” he said.
