A System Surpassing European Standards at Istanbul Airport
In April, İGA Istanbul Airport made history in Europe by launching its Triple Independent Runway Operation. İGA CEO Selahattin Bilgen described the new system as a significant milestone in Turkish aviation history, emphasising that the ability to conduct simultaneous take-offs and landings on three independent runways boosts both operational efficiency and safety.
Thanks to advanced radar systems, A-CDM (Airport Collaborative Decision Making) integration, and digital slot management, Istanbul Airport has taken a major step towards becoming one of the most critical hubs in global aviation. Bilgen stated, “While taking this historic step, I would like to thank our Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the ministry, DHMİ, and all our stakeholders.”
Bilgen added that, through joint efforts with Turkish Airlines, passenger experience has been enhanced, traffic flow optimised, and environmental impact reduced. He stressed that they will continue to develop Istanbul Airport into “not just a destination, but an innovative and strategic hub shaping global aviation.”
