Icelandair to Begin Direct Flights to Istanbul and Edinburgh
Iceland’s flag carrier, Icelandair, is expanding its route network with the launch of direct flights to Istanbul and Edinburgh. Starting in September 2025, the new services aim to boost tourism between Iceland, Turkey, and Scotland, while offering passengers more efficient connections to Asia, the Middle East, and North America.
First Flight to Istanbul: 5 September 2025
On 5 September 2025, Icelandair will touch down in Turkey for the first time with its Keflavik–Istanbul service. Operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, flights will run four times a week.

- Istanbul departure: 07:05 → Keflavik arrival: 10:00
The Istanbul route will become Icelandair’s longest 737 operation. Thanks to the expanded partnership with Turkish Airlines, connections to Asia and the Middle East will be further strengthened.
First Direct Flight to Edinburgh: 12 September 2025
The Icelandic airline will also begin direct services to Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, starting 12 September 2025. Operated year-round with the Boeing 737 MAX 8, the flights will offer both economy and premium options.
September – April: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays

- Edinburgh departure: 14:15 → Keflavik arrival: 15:50
During the winter period (November – March), there will be schedule adjustments, but regular connections will be maintained.
Strengthening International Connections
The new routes will reinforce Icelandair’s Europe-based network, providing passengers with convenient North American connections and the opportunity to explore Iceland during their travels.
Icelandair CEO Bogi Nils Bogason emphasised the strategic importance of adding Istanbul and Edinburgh to the network, stating: “Our enhanced partnership with Turkish Airlines will strengthen links between Iceland and the East, while Edinburgh flights will bring Iceland, Scotland, and North America closer together.”
