Horror During the Return-to-Work Hour: Beechcraft 55 Crashed into a Vehicle on the Highway

A small aircraft attempting an emergency landing on Interstate 95 in Florida’s Brevard County crashed into a vehicle. One person was injured in the incident, which was one of two aircraft accidents reported in Central Florida on the same day.

On Monday evening, during the return-to-work traffic in Florida’s Brevard County, a small aircraft crashed onto the southbound lanes of Interstate 95. Officials stated that the aircraft struck at least one vehicle and that one person was taken to the hospital.

The Crash Occurred at 5:45 PM

According to information provided by a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) spokesperson, the incident occurred at around 5:45 PM on the southbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 201 in the city of Cocoa.

Emergency Landing Attempt on the Highway

FHP reported that the fixed-wing, twin-engine Beechcraft 55 aircraft collided with a 2023 Toyota Camry while attempting an emergency landing on the highway.

There were two people on board the aircraft:

  • A 27-year-old pilot from Orlando,
  • A 27-year-old passenger from Temple Terrace.

Both individuals survived the crash without injuries.

Driver Taken to Hospital

The driver of the Toyota Camry struck by the aircraft, a 57-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries. She was transported to Viera Hospital.

The reason why the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing is not yet known. It was announced that the FAA will conduct the investigation into the accident.

The road, which was closed to traffic following the crash, was reopened shortly before 9:00 PM.

Second Aircraft Accident in Central Florida on the Same Day

This incident was the second small aircraft crash reported in Central Florida on Monday.

Earlier in the day in DeLand, a small aircraft made an emergency landing on a road near DeLand High School. Two people on board were injured and taken to the hospital. This crash occurred at around 2:00 PM.
